FISHING
Marina We offer a complete marina with plenty of beach and several piers for boat docking. In addition, we offer outboard motor fuel and oil, bait and cleaning services. Fast freezing service is also available so your catch arrives at home ready to prepare. Boat launching is available at the resort.
Camp Store For that one special lure or that extra snack to make the fishing complete, we offer a well stocked camp store. Canadian fishing licenses are sold here and can be purchased on arrival.
Equipment The Thunderbird fleet includes 25 h.p. outboard motors and 16' boats. A Limited # of Upgraded Boats (with 40hp motors) also available. Our motors are checked daily to ensure proper operation. The boats are deep "V" type to ensure stability: important if fishing with children or in choppy water. Seat cushions are available.
Suggested Equipment to Bring We suggest that you bring your clothes based on the season. Spring and fall fishing require warm clothes. Snowmobile suits and boots make the ride across the water comfortable. Bring your personal gear, toilet kit, medication and good rain gear. Be sure to pack your camera and extra film; there is plenty of wildlife on the lake and you will want to capture the one that didn't get away. All fishermen will need a wearable life jacket.
Fishing Equipment I recommend a good medium action pole for walleyes, with a spinning reel. If you plan to do some northern fishing, however, a good bait casting rig is advised. I also recommend 10 to 15 lb. test line for walleye and 15 to 25 lb. test for northern fishing.
Bait Walleye fishing is generally done with a spinner or jig and live bait. I have available at the camp, minnows, nightcrawlers or leeches, all of which work well depending on your fishing preference. Northern fishing is generally done using artificial lures. Bright colours, such as orange and red are the best. I recommend you bring along an assortment of daredevils, spoons and plugs which you like to fish.
Booking Information We recommend that you book your fishing trip early to ensure you get the dates of your choice. Winter and summer addresses are on the folder. A deposit of $200 per cabin is required for cabin rent. Groups and multiple parties traveling together are welcome, and we will do our best to provide cabins together, or campsites where groups can park.
Drive Out Fishing Trips For the fishing experience of a lifetime, I recommend a drive out fishing trip to one of our remote camps. We choose small lakes which are easily navigable and offer the opportunity to hook the lunker of your dreams. Accommodations are basic and give the true outdoor adventure you're looking for.
