HISTORY OF THE LODGE
Pozniak’s is one of the oldest hunting and fishing resorts in Northern Ontario.
Hewn out of the forest by Bill Pozniak, who came to Marten River in the early 1900’s to trap, fish and hunt. The lodge and cabins Bill constructed from cedar and spruce logs still stand today, a testament to his engineering abilities, although he could neither read nor write.
The clientele back then were strictly fishermen and hunters, so the accommodation was quite rustic, but as time passed, the men began to bring their wives and families, so electricity, running water and inside washrooms were installed.
Pozniak’s while retaining as much of its original atmosphere as possible has modernized the cabins, to make it the perfect vacation spot for the whole family.
LOCATION
Our cottages are located on the beautiful Marten River, which provides good fishing, and excellent canoeing. To reach our boat docks, follow 6 km of private woodland road to Red Cedar Lake. While en route you may be fortunate enough to encounter some of natures wildlife.
We have 18’ Geisler cedar strip boats and 9.9 H.P.motors. Our fishing is good and Red Cedar Lake is noted for it’s pickerel (walleye), and northern pike fishing, although it also produces fairly good catches of small mouth bass and perch. Guides are available, please arrange in advance.
ACCOMMODATION
Pozniak’s spacious, private cottages are fully equipped rustic log cabins, with three piece bathrooms, and one to four bedrooms.
HUNTING
For the hunter POZNIAK’S offers Fall bear hunting, resident and non-resident moose hunting in WMV 40. We also offer small game hunting.
