NEW Each year we invest in improvements to our facilities, and, in keeping with our efforts to continually upgrade we have, this year, accelerated our program, and are pleased to share these improvements with you. Listed below are some of our new purchases that will add to the comfort and enjoyment of your vacation at Pine Grove. Also, some of our planned renovation/replacement projects for this year are indicated below. PURCHASES: Environmentally friendly purchases: Over the past few years we have continued to be more environmentally concerned owners and are making some changes in keeping with this. We are gradually replacing outboard motors with 4 stroke motors that give better fuel economy as well as reducing pollutants. To conserve electricity, we have converted all the outside cottage lights to the new low wattage bulbs. The new fireplaces we have purchased will reduce emissions by more than is required by the Canadian B415 Standard and the U.S.EPA, at the same time reducing the consumption of fuel wood. The new refrigerators also operate more efficiently as well as being more convenient. Recycling: We continue to recycle in order to reduce the need for landfill sites in our community and also to make materials available for reuse. There isn't a community recycling program in Port Loring; therefore, we have made a personal commitment at Pine Grove, to continue ourselves to gather and transport all recyclables to the city of North Bay on a weekly basis. Fireplaces: We have replaced the existing wood stoves with EPA approved, airtight, freestanding fireplaces with glass doors in Cottages #3, #5, #7 and #8. These fireplaces will provide a cozy wood fire on cool evenings in the spring and fall and will also use less wood. Appliances: We have purchased new refrigerators for Cottages #3 and #8 and new stoves for Cottages #2, #3, #7 and #8. Beds: Some of the bedrooms were ready for new mattresses and box springs and these will be replaced in Cottages #3, #4, #7, and #8. Cottage #8 will now have a double bed in each bedroom instead of single beds in one bedroom and a double in the other. Bedding: New sheets were purchased for all our beds last fall and we have now purchased new blankets for all the beds. Furniture: Some furniture will be replaced or recovered in Cottages #1, #3, #4, #5, #6, and #8. Boats: We have purchased another upgraded motorboat with a live well, lights, carpet, seats and a 15 h.p. electric start, 4 stroke motor. For something fun and different, we have purchased a 16' rowboat, hand crafted in Powassan by Geisler Boat Works. It will be for rent for the person looking for both exercise and tranquility. Generator: As some of you may have experienced, the hydro has not been totally reliable in the last few years; therefore, to guard against possible short-term power failures, we have purchased a generator that will be able to provide us with power at least for our water system and to keep the main freezer operating. RENOVATION/REPLACEMENT PROJECTS Screened Porch: The deck at the side of Cottage #3 will be replaced with a new screen porch that will be added to the front of the cottage. This will also include a sliding door and several new windows. Bathroom: The bathroom will be renovated in Cottage #2. Signs: New destination signs will be located at the entrance to Pine Grove, and on the gas house. A small finger sign will be located at the turn on Pine Grove Road. We are excited about the improvements that the above purchases and renovations will make to our facilities and to the enjoyment and comfort of your vacation at Pine Grove.
