Fishing at Lost Lake Wilderness Lodge
Lots of good fishing happens right from the dock in front of your cottage. Bass and walleye are easy to catch most days. The odd huge Northern Pike will sometimes take anything that you have just caught, such as one of those nice bass or walleye. An eye popping experience indeed whether youre 2 or 102 years old. Catch and Release Policy. Lost Lake Wilderness Lodge is really a combination of distinctly different lakes and rivers. This combination provides guests with opportunities that are not available at many other places on this earth. One advantage is a choice between catch and release or conservation fishing. Some of the lakes are reserved for the fisherman that would like the chance to catch a large fish to photograph without taking the fish home. This provides the angler with all the thrill of the chase without the killing of the trophy. Certainly the best of both worlds. The number of lakes available to fish are too many to mention, so we wont bore you by describing each one, but we guarantee that you will run out of vacation time before you have fished them all. For a change of pace, how about a day fly-in trip for as low as $125. Just ask us and we will make all the arrangements. The advantage of having many lakes to choose is that only a few are deemed catch and release. The other lakes and rivers provide an abundance of fish to eat. Even so it is strongly recommended that the larger breeding fish be returned to the lake with the smaller ones destined for the dining table. The small ones taste better anyway! Barbless hooks, available in our small store help releasing your fish with the least amount of stress to your catch. The next best thing is to pinch down the barbs on your existing tackle. This makes releasing much easier on the fish and fisherman with the release sometimes being well in advance, much to the chagrin of the angler. Oh well! At least the fish is safe and ready to be caught by the fellow in the other boat. The largest recorded Northern Pike caught was 50 inches long weighing 30 pounds. It was caught by Randy Faller and interestingly, his brother Brian caught a 49 inch Northern Pike the very next day. This gallant catch and release effort put forth by these two sportsmen is certainly noteworthy. Imagine, over eight feet of fresh water fish in just 2 fish. The highlight of course is yours because these fish are still there, ready to be caught, quite possibly by you.
Fishing season for all species opens the third Saturday in May. These species are Walleye (pickerel), Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass and Perch. Also Speckled, often referred to as Brook Trout, along with Rainbow and Lake Trout. The Brook Trout here are not to be confused with the tiny brookies caught down south in streams. The brookies here are quite big, averaging over a pound with some in the 2, 3 and 4 pound range or even larger. The secret is that they are in lakes not streams. If you add all the species up that Lost Lake has to offer, the total is seven. Lots of action almost any time of the year. Fishing limits for a Conservation licence are: Walleye- 2; Northern Pike- 2; Smallmouth Bass- 2; Perch-No limit; Lake Trout- 1; Brook Trout- 2; Rainbow Trout-2; or 2 Total Trout combined per day. Children under 18, if an Ontario resident require no licence. Non resident children under 18 can fish off of an adults valid licence. Conservation fishing licences are available in our store. Many of the lakes have picnic areas ready for you to pull ashore and cook up your catch. Shore lunch kits are available for the asking. A spacious fish cleaning house with running water and large counters is available for your use. A good place to trade stories about the one that got away. Boats and Motors
The remote lakes are equipped with boats and motors. A daily shuttle service is supplied for even more nearby lakes. Upgraded Bass boats with electric start 15 hp motors, bow mounted electric trolling motor, live well and fish finder are available at an additional charge. Due to the 1999 boating regulations, children under 17 years of age will not be allowed to operate motorized boats. Regulations require every boat to have a whistle and waterproof flashlight. Next time you are shopping for tackle, pick these items up for your tackle box. Please be prepared to take a short (10 minute) boat safety course at the lodge prior to being assigned your boat!
