Weather
Red
Lake is in Northern Ontario's Boreal Forest but owes its
beautiful summer weather to the Canadian Prairies which are
but a short distance away to the west.
Dry,
sunny weather are the norms with daytime highs: May 60s, June
70s, July-August 75-85, September 60s.
The
lake water is usually comfortable for swimming in July and
August but often times in June as well.
The dry
air and Bow Narrows' location on a peninsula helps keep
insects like mosquitoes and black flies in check.

Summers are simply glorious.
The sun
this far north is intense and you will want a good cap or hat
plus sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
Once in awhile we are affected by cool, rainy weather so be
prepared with excellent rainwear and footwear.
We have nearly 20 hours of daylight in June. This gives ample
fishing opportunities but is not so good to see Northern
Lights. For that, August and September are better when the
nights are longer.. |
The Perseid Meteor Shower in mid-August can be fabulous in our
dark sky with no light pollution.
Make sure you bring binoculars for fantastic, sharp images of
the moon and its craters plus other astronomical objects like
nebulae. The Milky Way stands out clearly in our night sky. |
