About Canyon Lake We are a drive-in wilderness camp. On this web site we have attempted to illustrate what we and
the area have to offer. Without exception, Northwestern Ontario is one of the most beautiful areas in the world, and we are part of it. We are in an area of hundreds of lakes, rivers and streams surrounded by beautiful pine and hardwood forests abundant with wildlifea far cry from the cities and towns most of us come from. Canyon Lake itself is a beautiful clear water glacial lake accented with islands and bays. The surrounding terrain goes from gently sloping shoreline to sheer rock cliffs. The lake is approximately 15 miles long and from its narrowest point of 100 yards to 2 miles wide, with depths ranging from a few feet in some of the shallow weedy bays to 100 feet at the deepest point which accounts for little or no fish kill due to extreme weather conditionshot or cold. For the fishing enthusiast there are weed beds, miles of rocky shoreline with scattered fallen trees, rock structure in abundance throughout the lake, providing the ultimate in Muskie, Bass and Walleye fishing.
This is a quiet spot located 18 miles from the nearest town of Vermilion Bay and 3 miles off Route 647 (black top road). In the town of Vermilion Bay there are churches, shopping facilities, gift shops, Laundromats, restaurants, bait shops, etc. Dryden, approximately 50 miles away on Hwy. 17, has a modern hospital, airport and all modern shopping conveniences. Have a different vacation this year at Canyon Lake. This is a region for a better vacation. It has so much to offer that is out of the ordinary. It gives you privacy away from the usual rush of traffic and everyday living. We try to make your days here something to remember pleasantly when you get back home something to really talk about with your friends just a carefree vacation. Whether it be fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, swimming or just plain relaxingwe have it here at Canyon Lake Lodge.
Families This is a camp for women and children as well as for men.
Women and children will enjoy our safe sand beach for swimming and sunbathing. Also,
excellent berry picking is within walking distance of our camp. For those who wish to join in During July and August we enjoy daily gatherings at the picnic tables which over the years has come to be known as Cocktail Hour. Cocktail Hour provides us with a late afternoon time of leisure to enjoy our favorite beverages and snacks. Our guests do this on a bring your own basis. Yearly reunions with friends that were made here at camp during past summers have led to this tradition. Its a family time we look forward to. Article by Walt Matan - Midwest Outdoors - Feb. 2001 "Premier Canadian Lake for Muskie and tremendous Walleye". "It's the kind of lake you will return to again and again". "True wilderness splendor without the expensive cost". "It's the kind of lake you can fish without a guide". Canyon Lake offers some of the fastest Muskie fishing you will find anywhere. Its home to both size and numbers of fish. "IF YOU CAN'T CATCH MUSKIE ON A WEEKS TRIP TO CANYON LAKE THEN YOU MIGHT AS WELL TAKE UP GOLF!" Smallmouth Bass are also plentiful. My wife and I fished for smallies one morning in early fall and caught over 25 fish largest topping 20 inches. Walleye too were active. We got 22 in 2 hours one evening. Blyth's Canyon Lake Lodge also has portage lakes. These lakes are home to fast action for Lake Trout, Northern, Walleye. The portage lakes offer fly-in style fishing at a drive-in price. Blyth's Canyon Lake Lodge has a lot going for it. Bruce and Joan Blyth are two of the most hard working congenial hosts you will ever meet. The cabins are clean, fully equipped, and the grounds are well maintained and full of wildlife. If you're lucky enough to get a cabin, grab it quick since Canyon Lake offers one of the best fisheries anywhere. Full Article Featured in February Issue 2001.
